Caring For Lacquered Pine Furniture |

Pine is a natural material with variations of grain pattern, knots and colour in every piece. The colour of all pine deepens as it ages, due to the action of light on the wood. It is this ‘mellowing’ process that gives older pine its rich, warm colour, so new pieces will initially look paler than older pieces.
In order to avoid patchy mellowing, we recommend that you should regularly move ornaments, lamps, etc. around on new pine furniture, to allow the whole surface of the wood to receive even exposure to light. Open the centre of flip top tables regularly so the wood can mellow at the same rate as the rest of the table.
Lacquered pine furniture needs no special maintenance. The lacquer is reasonably heat and water resistant, and provides a harder wearing protection that also highlights the grain and gives a deep sheen. Just dust it regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Sticky marks can be removed with a dilute solution of warm, soapy water, dry thoroughly afterwards. Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions and never use any cleaning products that are not recommended by them. A good quality furniture polish like Pledge is ideal for lacquered items.
