A few points to remember when measuring your furniture

A good way of making sure your furniture fits in a place is to layout newspaper on the floor to the width and depth of the item of furniture you require – then take this to the shop.  Remember to always measure the proudest point of the item of furniture, i.e. on a wardrobe this would either be the cornice on top or the plinth at the base, never just measure the centre. 

Don't forget about skirting boards when measuring an alcove, also ceiling heights. Is there enough height in the staircase, or are there any awkward corners in the staircase, if so does the item split down/come apart in order to be delivered.
