What To Look For When Buying Pine Furniture |
Check that the furniture is constructed from solid pine. Other types of timber may have different moisture contents. Check that timber is kiln dried to a 12% moisture content. This is deemed to make the most stable furniture and helps to avoid warping and shrinking.
Check that all the drawers are constructed using dovetailed joints. Butt joints will fall apart after continued use.
Check that the unit contains no thin plywood or hardboard. Thin plywood or hardboard is not rigid enough to be used in quality furniture. Make sure the piece is not flat packed as flat pack furniture is not as strong as traditionally constructed furniture.
Make sure the furniture carries some sort of guarantee, as it is not uncommon for drawers to need easing during the first few weeks as the furniture settles into a new environment with different humidity levels. Check that all hinges, knobs and fasteners are of good quality, the furniture is only as good as its weakest component
