4homes was founded in 1983 by Alan and Patricia Parrish, trading from their Sidmouth showroom as Tile & Pine. Those early years established the hallmarks of what the business would become: genuine passion for quality materials, honest advice, and personal service. Over the following decades the business expanded, evolved its range, and in 2002 was consolidated as 4homes — reflecting a broadening focus on whole-home interior design and installation.
In September 2022, 4homes made a decision that reflected its deepest values: transitioning to 100% employee ownership. Every member of our team is now a co-owner of the business. When you visit our Sidmouth showroom, you are dealing with people who have a genuine personal stake in the quality of their advice and the standard of their work.
We are proud holders of the Good Business Charter — a recognised framework covering the real living wage, employee wellbeing, fair contracts, diversity, environmental responsibility, ethical sourcing and prompt payment. We believe that treating people well — our team, our customers, our suppliers, our community — is what makes a business worth trusting.
Today, 4homes designs and installs kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms for homeowners across East Devon. We also supply tiles, flooring, Little Greene Paint and designer wallpapers. Forty-three years of craft, a team of people who genuinely care, and a business built to last.
What we stand for
Forty-three Years of Craft
Since 1983, we have been designing and installing beautiful interiors for East Devon homes. 43 years of experience inform every project we take on.
100% Employee-Owned
In 2022 we became a fully employee-owned business. Every member of our team has a genuine stake in the quality of their work — because it is their business too.
Good Business Charter
Certified across all ten components: real living wage, fair contracts, employee wellbeing, diversity, environmental responsibility, ethical sourcing and prompt payment.
Built to Last
Employee ownership makes hostile takeovers structurally impossible. The business belongs to the people who built it — ensuring the continuity our customers value.
A seven-stage approach
At 4homes, we believe that great results come from great process. Our seven-stage approach has been refined over four decades to ensure every project is managed and delivered to the highest standard. Every stage is managed by our in-house team, giving you a single point of contact and complete peace of mind throughout.
All our services are also available on a supply-only basis if you have your own installation team and prefer to work that way.
-
Stage 1 — Enquiry
Your journey with 4homes begins with a simple enquiry — whether you visit our Sidmouth High Street showroom, or contact us through our website. From the very first conversation, you will receive a no-obligation service from a member of our experienced team. There is no pressure and no commitment at this stage — just an honest conversation about what you are hoping to achieve.
-
Stage 2 — Design Consultation
One of our experienced interior designers will visit your home at a time that suits you. They will assess the space in detail — taking precise measurements and photographs, reviewing the existing services (plumbing, electrics, gas), and having an in-depth conversation about how you use the space, what matters most to you, and how you want it to feel when it is complete. This consultation is provided entirely free of charge and without any obligation to proceed.
-
Stage 3 — Design
Our design team will create detailed plans, elevations and photorealistic 3D representations of your new room. We prepare an initial quotation and put together mood boards with samples of paint finishes, tiles, flooring, cabinet door styles, worksurfaces and appliances — so you can start to see your new room taking shape. The design stage is where ideas become reality.
-
Stage 4 — Design & Quotation Review
You are invited to our showroom for a full presentation of your design on our large-format interactive display screen. Your designer walks you through the 3D graphics room by room, discusses the material choices and finishes, and reviews the costs in detail. You take a full quotation home with you to review at your leisure. Many clients request one or two revisions at this stage — we are happy to refine the design until it is exactly right.
-
Stage 5 — Pre-contract Survey
Before you make any financial commitment, our project manager visits your property to carry out a detailed pre-contract survey. They will assess the existing structure and services, confirm all costs, and introduce themselves as your dedicated point of contact for the project. At this stage, subject to your approval, we agree on installation dates and secure your place in our schedule with a deposit. You will know exactly what is happening, when, and who to call with any questions.
-
Stage 6 — Delivery & Installation
Our installation teams include plasterers, tilers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and decorators — the majority of whom are directly employed by 4homes, supported by a small number of trusted specialist subcontractors. Your project manager coordinates the schedule, manages every trade on site, and maintains regular communication with you throughout. We treat your home with the greatest respect and take pride in leaving every room clean and tidy at the end of each working day.
-
Stage 7 — Aftercare
When your installation is complete, your project manager holds a formal handover meeting with you. We walk through the finished space together, address any final snagging items, provide all warranty documentation and supplier guarantees, and give you a full briefing on the care and maintenance of your new room. Our dedicated aftercare team remains available to you after the handover — because our relationship with our customers does not end when the final invoice is paid.
